I think Murray's been talking to Oscar (his doggie cousin). You see, Oscar has Mom trained now to take him for a walk around the neighborhood at the crack of dawn, every morning, even in the coldest of weather. Oh sure, it's good for her, I'll admit, but you know, there are days you just want to veg. He won't let her do that. And he's one persistent fellow when he wants something, so just to shut him up, you'll do it (I know...he's got me trained to do stuff too).
Well, I thought I'd outsmart Murray...train him not to expect anything on a regular basis, other than to go outside to do his business. But something must've gone wrong with my plan, or Oscar gave him a pep talk, because the past two mornings, Murray has shown definite signs that he was waiting to go for a walk. He stood his ground where IF we go for a walk, we usually take off from, and he just stared at me. And when I asked him what he wanted, he just smiled at me and wagged his tail. How could I say no to that?
So, why is it so easy for them to train us, but when we want them to do something simple, like roll over, it's like pulling teeth???

How can you not do what that little furry bundle of love wants to do?
Too bad he does not have a fenced in area to go run and play in...when you win the lottery you can build one. ha
Fences don't help. My dog is more than welcome to go out back and run around as much as he wants but he also has me trained that when I get home from work he stares until I finally say go get your lease. It's only 1 mile but the cold does make me not want to go. When his father is home, he also has him trained to walk him in the morning and then still wants to walk at night when I get home. SPOILED ANIMALS
Because they know if you don't takwe them all they have to do is pee on the floor or squat in your shoe until you get the message.
All you can do is clean it up so get the coat and go for a walk.
amelia,
Well, I'd have to play to win, huh?
I did let him out back without a leash at 3am the other night. There was no way I was going out into the frigid cold. He stood and stared at me in the doorway for the longest time, wondering what I was doing. Then he finally decided to do his business and came straight in. Thank goodness no squirrels are around at that time of night :)
texasgal,
You're right. They're pack animals and don't like being in a fenced yard by themselves. It's okay when he has other dogs to play with, but if it's just him, he wants me by his side.
walker,
Yes, dear.
Luckily, he's never peed in the house. Though, he's done #2 once or twice when I didn't feel like standing out in the rain long enough for him to go. So, guess your theory holds up :(
